4 days and counting. So far so good.
I'm in *LOVE* with Morningstar veggie burgers. They are SO yummy. And the corn dogs! They taste EXACTLY like the real thing. I bought Silk soy milk tonight. Had a half a glass of it tonight with dinner. I was thinking I really wouldn't like it... but it wasn't bad at all. I'm excited to try the chocolate... I think Ellie will like that too.
I have encountered one problem. People's perception/judgement of a vegetarian.
Why do people care that I have chosen to not eat meat and limit my dairy intake? I don't get it. Is it offensive to some people? I certainly don't think I'm any different a person because I choose not to eat meat while you choose to eat it. What's with the eye rolls and comments? It's almost like something I need to keep a secret so people like me still. How lame ass does that sound? Is it intimidating? I would never think I'm better than someone because I don't eat certain foods. So what's up with that?

I don't know the answer to your questions. I could make guesses, but really I have no educational input. I do however feel I should let you know that I support you and that you should bend over to let them all kiss your ass because you are doing what's right for you and beyond that it's no one else's right to say their opinion ON YOUR habits. :)
Yes yes yes, I know ALL about this, being a lifelong vegetarian. There are two groups of people. Those that will aplaud you and think you are marvelous for making such a choice, and those that are completely baffled by your choice. As if a diet without meat is equal to life without TV.
My inlaws, God bless them, dont get it at all. They will argue till the end that meat isnt bad for you. There is no changing there minds. And when Jason and I got engaged, my MIL sat him down (I recently learned this) and told him I would not fit into the family. Becuase of my vegetarianism alone.
Thankfully, I do fit into the family, and we all get along terrificly now. But, we dont talk about my choices or their choices. They do know that meat in moderation (red meat) is best, but that's about it.
Anyway, I am WAAAY proud of you for being open minding and giving this a try.
Wow, I can't believe you are getting negativity from your choice. Everyone makes their own choices so I don't know why people judge if the choice is different than the one you would make. So annoying. I would keep doing your thing. If people are going to judge you and your friendships change, I think that tells you something about the people that they are. The fact that you are doing something for you and your family to make you better and healthier is wonderful!
I believe that when some people find that you don't live the same way they do or believe the same things they do, they feel insulted...almost like through your actions you're saying that they're bad for being a meat eater. People are just nuts. If you feel good about this decision then keep it up! I think I could probably be a vegetarian if the notion ever struck me. I don't think I could go full blown vegan though...I hate soy milk, lol...and I LOVE cheese.
I think people know THEY couldn't commit...or even get jealous when someone makes a commitment to be healthier...screw em! Don't let them sabbatage you! Of course when we DO meet at FIesta I will be hoggin down a beef burrito !
