sometimes it pays to be a mean mommy...

She went to bed with no problems what so ever?! Do you think she remembered last night?? Maybe I shouldn't be saying this yet... cause now she'll probably wake up 50 times tonight and I'll have an awful nights sleep... dear god let hope not!!

We went upstairs, I read her 3 books, we rocked for less than a minute, she asked for a drink of water and then I told her it was time for bed... she even climbed into bed herself! Wow! I kissed her, told her I loved her, she gave me a hug and I was out the door! Wow. Wow!

Now it's *ME* time! :) Bye!

say hi to my friend :)

Hey girls (and a the few guys who read me!) my real life bff Tanya just started her own blog! I'm so excited! Go visit her here and see how dang cute her little Hunter is! Welcome her to our world!!

help me... please...

We are having a heck of a time with Ellie. She just will not go to bed. We do the whole routine of dinner and a bath. Then we play for a little bit or watch one episode of Dora and head upstairs. We read a book and then give our hugs and kisses. All is good til then... then she throws a royal fit! Screaming, hitting, kicking and yelling. She gets so angry. I quickly give her one more hug and kiss and leave her room. She quickly gets out of bed and comes and stands by her door and cries. This has been going on for over a week. I am going to go insane here any minute.

She is currently screaming right now. Screaming "rockin chair" cause she wants me to come up and rock her. What is so bad about rocking her? Well I'm afraid she is going to think all she has to do is scream and cry and I'll come up each time and do whatever it is she wants me to do.

Last night I tried the cry it out method. She cried for 50 minutes. YES I SAID 50 MINUTES!! Then I went up to rock her for a few minutes and then lay down in bed with her and eventually she fell asleep. But she is continuing this behavior through the night. Some nights waking up 3 times! I just don't want her to think she can continue with this behavior and each time I'll come up and do what she wants.

So tonight I'm trying what my friend Miss suggested. She went through this with her oldest son (she's got 4 kids) around the time he turned 2. I'm NOT going to rock her. I'm NOT going to lay in bed with her. I'm going to go into her room without any kisses or talking and just put her back in her bed. I've already done this twice and oh is she pissed right now.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry right now. I'm angry, frustrated, sad, exhausted, pissed, confused and annoyed. And it doesn't help at all that Greg is working nights right now... and lots of overtime.

I am the boss. Not her. How the hell do I get her to understand this? I just want her to sleep so I can also get the sleep I need. Being a parent TOTALLY sucks right now. Totally sucks ass.

I just went up again. Put her little butt back into bed and told her it was time for bed. (shame on me I kissed her on the cheek too) but dang it, do you know how hard it is to look at your little 23 month old baby in the eye when she's got tears rolling down her face and she's trying to catch her breath from crying so hard and you tell her that it is time for bed and we are not rocking! Geez. I'm crying now. But guess what. At this moment... she's quiet. Wow.

busy, busy, busy...

I've had the busiest week at work! Training in a new person to do my job so I can do the job of one of the other workers who is now on maternity leave... I won't go into it until later... but it has pretty much been hell. Can we say NOT a multi-tasker, which is a necessity. Can barely make photo copies! Puuuuuleeeezzzz help me god!

So, I apologize for being a bad blogger friend... I've read almost nothing this week and have left NO comments, let alone posted anything new for you to read! I'm sorry... I promise to be better next week!

Gonna go do some catching up! Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Rachel Ray I'm not...

Did I ever mention how good a cook I was? I am a magician in the kitchen. I just burned velveeta shells and cheese. Crap. Now what am I gonna make?

thank goodness for today...

For the first time in months I have this feeling like there is a light at the end of the tunnel... for a couple reasons.

**First off with all the sickness in our house! Today Ellie kept down all her food/drinks and actually seemed more like herself. She actually played, laughed, ran around and we even walked down to the park for a few fun "wee's" down the slide. She was wiped out from the last couple days and fell asleep in my arms at 6:15 tonight!

I am finally feeling almost back to 100% and I know Greg is also. So I'm hoping in the illness dept we are done for the winter. This winter was the worst winter I've EVER had. I feel like one of us has been sick non-stop since November (coincidentally the first month we started daycare)!

This morning I was able to clean up the house, do some organizing and open the windows! To me opening the windows after a long cold and sick winter is the *BEST* thing ever! It was so refreshing and makes me feel so good!!

**Secondly I am happy to say that we (my sister and I) have moved a step further in our quest for our own shop. We have learned alot and are making some progress that is very exciting! Will of course give all the details when I am able to do so!!

**Thirdly... and the hardest to talk about is money. We have struggled in the past to stay afloat and the paycheck to paycheck bug is creeping upon us again. The gas prices are killing us with our 40 mile (round trip) drive into work everyday... Greg and I have very different work schedules so it isn't even like we could ride together and save the gas money. $3.46 a gallon is getting extremely ridiculous. And it is expected to go up!! We will not be able to keep up with tv/phone/water/insurance/cells/student loans/car payments/daycare/medical bills, (oh so many lovely, lovely bills), etc... if these prices keep going up. It is so frustrating. Plus I've heard that other things are going to be going up in price as a result of the gas... for example your loaf of bread or your gallon of milk... because it cost the milk/bread company more to get that item to the grocery store... so we get to pay the price. I've about had it with our government right now. We need some MAJOR changes to happen and very soon.

The only thing I can say good about this current administration is that they are giving us $1500 back of our hard earned money. Money that they are hoping we will use to stimulate the economy. Stimulate the economy my ass... we'll be stimulating the pockets of the oil moguls since using it for gas and other bills is what we're going to have to do with it. :( It sucks to be a grown up sometimes.

Ok, I'm depressing myself, sorry if I'm doing the same to you... this outta cheer us up...
Don't you wish you were a kid again? When all you had to worry about was what doll you were going to play with or what color crayon you wanted to use? No adult worries. None.

Off to bed. Ta ta for now.

this wasn't in the job description...

I believe the stomach flu has invaded our home... or at least Ellie's belly. Greg brought her in to the dr on Thursday morning cause she had been puking on and off since daycare called me to come get her on Tuesday. Besides the puking she still had this horrid cough that was keeping her up at night. Turns out our dr treated her for an ear infection and a possible sinus infection. Good to get those taken care off. Finally. But the puking still continues!! Our dr called the house Thursday night to see how she was and then Friday morning I had to go into work for a few hours and he called me again there to see how the night had gone! What a dr, huh!

We had a second appt on Friday because he wanted to see her once more before the weekend and give her a second dose shot of the antibiotics. I left work to pick Ellie up for her appt and called my sister to tell her to have her ready to go... I called in the midst of Ellie puking yet again. Real nice. My poor sister and dad. They got to clean up that one. Dr appt summed up here: got her 2nd shot, discussed the vomiting, coughing and weight loss (she'd gone from 25.8 lbs at her 18 month appt to 23.4 lbs yesterday and he didn't like this) and he decided he wanted a stool sample to make sure she didn't have giardia or some other long c word. So I've been waiting for her to poop since last night... and of course she hasn't cause she can't keep anything in her stomach! I don't know how they expect me to collect any poop.

This morning was going ok. We started off with some gatorade (she HATES pedialyte) and about an hour later had a fourth of a banana and a slice of toast. While eating the toast she barfed all over her plate. Great. Got it cleaned up.

About 11 we both fell asleep on the couch and I woke up within a few minutes and thought I'd carry her up to bed so I could have some free time. Oh, but no, she woke up and threw up all over the couch and herself. Thank god we were laying on and covered up with blankets! We are still recovering from that episode. She's since had a few bites of banana and a half a piece of toast. We've now switched to 7-up. I'm on my 3rd load of laundry and the little terd WILL NOT take a nap! I'm going to go bonkers in a few seconds here...

I decided to do a little research of my own on the mayo website and this is what I think she has... click here. I'm no dr, but I am a mommy.

the difference between mommys and daddys

So as you all know Ellie threw up yesterday (twice). During the night last night she also woke up and threw up two more times... I had LOTS of laundry to get started this morning before work! I handled the puke as a mommy does, like it's just another days work. (Remember, Greg is working the night shift right now.) You just do what you have to do. If I get it on my pj's, big deal, I just change my pj's. If I get it on my hands, big deal I just wash my hands. So tonight in the middle of dinner Ellie throws up again. Not much... maybe a tablespoon worth. It gets on her shoes, pants and sweatshirt. Greg undresses her and brings her inside to take a bath (I have another story about that next). I get her in the tub and wash her up. Next thing I know my hubby is walking with Ellie's puked on clothes to the laundry room with these on his hands...

because he "can't touch the puke because it's gross!" Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaa! I can't help but laugh my ass off. What would he have done if he would have been home alone last night while she ralphed all over 2 sets of pj's and sheets??? Somehow he gets so lucky and has NEVER been at home when she has massively puked. I am ALWAYS the one home. So not fair. Glad I could give you a laugh today.

********************************************

On to the bath story. Ellie has taken a strong dislike for baths lately. We don't really understand why... but this is what it has come to... me getting in the tub with her. She thinks it's the most fun thing ever! Me? Not so much. Yeah, our bathroom is old and gross and needs remodeling... we know. Just don't look, kay.

Congrats Melissa!

Oh my gosh! A friend of mine, Melissa, who does photography is going to be have a wedding she photographed featured in Minnesota Bride Magazine! How cool is that!!! Yeah, Melissa! I'm so excited for you!! (I posted a few wedding pics a couple posts ago and she did them!)

my morning...

* dropped Ellie off at daycare @ 7:45
* went to work
* got a phone call at 8:44 from daycare, Ellie was puking... (just great)
* told the boss lady I had to leave... seriously, I've been out between Ellie and I so much this winter I'm surprised I still have a job
* picked Ellie up
* drove home
* on the way home she puked, alot (just great) I tried to comfort her from the front seat while I was driving (we were seriously less than 2 miles from home) but my sweet girl was only worried about one thing, she kept saying "B dirty!!" (B is her blankey and she had barfed all over it)
* got home, practically undressed her in the driveway (ok, not really, but almost)
* started a load of laundry
* cleaned up Ellie and put her in daddy's chair to watch Dora
* pulled, stretched, unhooked and swore until I could get the damn car seat out of the van
* pulled, stretched, unhooked and swore until I could get the damn coverings off the carseat
* got puke all over myself
* tried not to puke
* finally got the car seat apart
* used a toothbrush to clean all the buckles and belts on the car seat
* used a toothbrush to clean Ellie's crocks
* started a second load of laundry
* changed my clothes
* cuddled with Ellie for a little while
* read Ellie 2 books
* put Ellie down for a nap
* ate 2 pieces of toast
* am now watching the news
* wow, being a mommy is LOTS of work

I really hope my afternoon goes better than my morning...

We had a much better afternoon. Ellie didn't puke anymore. (thank you god!) She kept down applesauce and toast for lunch. Chicken and tater tots for dinner. She has recently started hating her bath... and when I started to fill the tub tonight she got so upset and started gagging so I let the water out of the tub, cause I though she was going to puke again! So, yeah... I sent my almost 2 year old to bed with dried puke in her hair. Where's my mom of the year award, huh? We'll try for a bath again tomorrow night. No biggy since she is banned from daycare again tomorrow due to the puking today... so she'll be home with my dad in the a.m. and Greg in the afternoon so I can go to work. Have I ever told you I have the best dad ever? Cause I do. Thanks dad. Love ya.

My MIL didn't come down due to the weather! We are totally bummed cause we had such a fun weekend planned!!! But with this crap I have it is probably just as well so I can stay home and rest. I have been trying to teach Ellie how to say grandma Melody. She is so funny cause all she can say is gamma melly. It is pretty cute.

Oh! Oh! How could I forget! We are trying the big girl bed for the first time tonight! She fell asleep just fine in it... I'll take some pics of her when I go up to bed and will post them tomorrow.

Just for the hell of it I took some pics (very unflattering) of me last night when I was having the worst night I've had in a long time. (A few other blogs I read have been daring others to post pics of themselves first thing in the morning. That I will not do! Although, these aren't much better than that I suppose!) I was feeling so sick as hell, Ellie just wanted to climb all over me and Greg was at work. Those things don't make for a fun night. I would have paid anyone to come into my house and watch Ellie so I could go to bed! I was short tempered and really weepy last night and poor Ellie took the brunt of it. But the sweet girl that she is... wiped my tears away with her little hand and said "mommy cry?!"

Don't I look pissy and sick. Please ignore the zits. Yes I'm almost 30 and still get the damn things. OMG I HAVE A HUGE FOREHEAD!! Note to self: don't pin bangs back... I tried to not look so pissy in this one. Oh and btw I got a haircut last weekend. God, don't my eyes look tired?!
This one was just funny cause it took me a few tries before I could figure out how to take a pic of myself in the mirror.
Tonight though I had a much better night. When Greg picked up Ellie from daycare they stopped to pick up a few things at the grocery store and brought these home for me! How sweet.
I *LOVE* tulips! They were my wedding flowers... I'll have to show you some pics of our wedding flowers.

Here are my beauuuuuutiful wedding flowers... My favorite picture of my sister and I...
Pretty flowers...
My girls...

One of my favorite pics of Greg and I...
I'm in the mood for pictures, so here's a couple more of Ellie at my parents house the other night...

Wow, this post has been everywhere! I think I'm outta here... until tomorrow. (I'm sure I'll be laying on the couch all day again and will have PLENTY of time for a few more posts!)

My ass is plopped on the couch right now... watching reruns of Keeping up with the Kardashians... while my throat feels like a swollen raw mass of yuckiness, my ears feel cloudy and my nose is so full of crud I've gone through a entire box of kleenex in 2 days. I went to work yesterday and decided after 2 weeks of this crap I better go see my dr. Yup... sick again. I have an ear and a sinus infection. Possible strep, but with this new health insurance we have we pay everything until our $4400 deductible (!!!)... so we passed up the throat culture since the antibiotics will get rid of it if that's what I've got.

I am so ready for spring to get here. If any of you out there don't catch the national weather... our lovely state of MN has been dumped on with snow. Last week many northern MN cities got 32 inches of snow. Last night they got another foot with 6-10 more expected throughout today and tomorrow! These poor people could end up with almost 5 feet of snow!! Do you know what it is like to shovel 6 inches of snow, let alone 60! OMG!! It would take days to get out of that! We are lucky that we live in the very southern part of the state so we usually end up with less than everyone else. Yesterday and today we've seen only rain and thunderstorms, no snow. Thank god!

My MIL is supposed to be on her way down from northern WI today. I know they've been pummeled with all this snow too. We are really hoping she can get down here. We have a fun weekend planned for Ellie! If she gets here we are going to the Mall of America tomorrow to have lunch at the Rainforest Cafe and afterwards will be going to Underwater Adventures Aquarium! So fun! I hope I'm feeling good enough to go. I actually thought of staying home and letting them go if I still don't feel well, but I don't want to miss out! It sounds like too much fun!

Back to the weather... this is crazy MN. We must be the only place where we can have low to mid 30's temps for the weekend and by next Tuesday it is expected to be in the 60's?! I cannot wait to open the windows and get some fresh air in this house and get all the winter germs out!! I am ready to have a fun and healthy summer!

Time for a snooze... will be back later!

p.s. thank you to my dad who came to pick up Ellie today and took her to daycare for me so I didn't have to make the 20 mile drive into town... AND this awesome dad of mine is taking my van to get an oil change and tire rotation for me! Sweet! :)

4.07.2008

do you hit mute when you stop by?

Do you hate the music? If so I'll take it off. Greg hates it. I tried to pick some of my favorite slow, relaxing and quiet songs. (oh, ok... except for the violent femmes) I kinda like it. Let me know. Majority rules.

4.05.2008

spirit like goldie hawn...?

We were grocery shopping on Thursday night and as we walked down an aisle a woman who was also shopping with her family stopped in her tracks, looked at Ellie and said, "Oh, she is beautiful, she has gorgeous hair, she has such spirit! Spirit like Goldie Hawn!" She was maybe in her mid 40's, a very sincere and kind woman. But a spirit like Goldie Hawn?? What the heck??

It was beautiful today. I don't even know what the high ended up being, but the breeze was so warm, it had to be 60 or near there. Greg has been home with bronchitis... not fun, I think we all have it, he is the only one diagnosed with it though, since he has asthma we thought it was important, Ellie and I can get better with rest and fluids. But did I sit around and relax all day like I should have?? NO. Instead I did laundry, washed rugs, washed the kitchen floor and vacuumed and cleaned out my van. I really want to kill all these germs that are invading our lives!!!!

While I cleaned the van Ellie played outside... she blew bubbles...
stood in the wind...
pretended to drive the car...
and got her first skinned knees!!
It was a beautiful day and I feel like I got something accomplished which always makes me feel good. On the agenda for tomorrow is cleaning the back entry and the dining room... I hope I'm as motivated tomorrow as I was today! Hope you are all having a great weekend :)
