Last night I was catching up on a little blog reading, now that it's summer I just don't seem to find enough time to sit inside on the computer (I've found a solution to that, will explain later).

But first... I was reading Lost in Translation and she directed readers to this site: Matt, Liz and Madeline. If you have some free time please go visit Matt. He recently lost his wife Liz a day after their daughter Madeline was born. It is an AMAZING blog about the day Matt lost Liz and his struggles in dealing with the loss plus the realization that he now has to raise Maddy by himself. And from what I've read so far he has an amazing group of friends and family helping him. A good place to start in his archives is March 2008 (the beginning of the month). At the time they were living in CA... I'm not completely caught up to the current date, but I'm assuming they still live there. Although they do have ties to MN, I'm not 100% sure yet if both their families are here, but will figure it out as I continue to read. Matt is such a great writer. He has made me both laugh out loud (quietly, since it was after midnight last night and I was lying in bed reading next to my sleepy husband who had to get up at 4:30!) and get teary. Go check it out.

Now, back to my solution for not getting much time to blog in the summer?! Ellie and I went to Menards yesterday after Jess's shower and bought her a little pool for $10. It keeps her entertained for hours! What is better than that for a mommy of a 2 year old! It frees up time for me to sit and read a book or to catch up on blogs... I never thought something that cost $10 could keep me (and Ellie for that matter) so happy! Happy Ellie = Happy Mommy :)
Oh, and Happy Father's Day to all you daddy's out there! Ellie sure struck out and got a good one!

I've been reading Matt's blog for a while. It really does make me cry some days, and that's not easy to do.

I cried LOTS last night reading his blog...just the fact that she was on her way to hold her baby...completely heartbreaking. I love how he rights though and he does have a great sense of humor despite what he's been through.
Thanks for sharing!

Chas and Kirsten - yes, I've also cried lots while reading Matt's blog. It has really made me take a closer look at every minute of my day. How I treat people, especially Greg and Ellie. Sometimes it takes something like reading what Matt has gone thru to remind you of what you have and how special it really is. I'm glad you both took the time to read it. Our Twin Cities (Mpls and St. Paul) newspaper, the Pioneer Press, ran a story yesterday on the best daddy blogs. They included Matt's in their story which I just thought was really cool.

Kirsten- I hope you have a blast in the pool!
