to cloth or not to cloth

I am considering cloth diapering. There are so many convinient new ways of doing it that it almost seems easy, it is for sure cheaper than disposable and is obviously better for the environment. I feel like I can dedicate the washing time it will need as I will be home now.

Anyone have any experience with this? My faves so far are the Bummis and bumGenius.

I'd love some advice. Thanks.

I know of no one that liked them. The smells. The yuck. The discipline it takes.

I disagree with OhCaptain! =) My sister and the majority of her friends do it...and they LOVE LOV ELOVE it. If I weren't this far into my babies =) I would consider it. She created an entire blog and everything for it!

I've been doing it for about a week and I have been happy overall. As a SAHM, it seems I do laundry nearly everyday, so throwing a load of cloth diapers in at night is no big deal. And I wash them near daily only because I didnt order a big quanity. I ordered 8.

My biggest advice is to go with snaps and not velcro. It just comes undone easily, and later on the baby will be able to undo it himself.

I LOVE not having bags of smelly diapers to take to the trash.

I do bumGenius and they are really great quality. If you do cloth though, you have to invest a bit up front. I would advise not to have less than 12 diapers at least, that way if you dont get to a load you still have some to get you through. You can throw the whole diaper in the wash, no need to take out the insert (which I was tediously doing for a long time) - the inserts just come out in the wash anyway. If you have a good system, (bin to wash) - you cant lose. The all size bumgenious didnt fit Lil' til' she was about 6 weeks though.....they just seemed to big.

Buy a couple, try it. If you don't like it and you only use them that many times to get your money's worth. Whoopee. You saved a bit.

I thought it was okay. I plan to do it with the next, but I am not going all gung ho and like NO disposables...
