What is the deal. Just when we get through one round of illness another strikes. Is this common amoung some of you other mommies? Christy, I know you've dealt with a lot of sickness this winter... anyone else? It seems never ending.
This round has gone like this:
Picked E up on Thursday evening from daycare. Was told by one of the girls that she had had some greenish/yellow discharge from her eyes. Didn't worry to much as I was just thinking, here we go, another cold. So E and I went and had dinner, drove around a couple dealership parking lots and stopped over at my mom and dad's house. By the time we got home it was about time for bed. She felt a little hot so I took her temp. 102.something. Great. Just great. Tylenol and nighty night. She slept all night.
Friday I stayed home from work. She had a low grade temp in the a.m. Played and ate normally. Temp decreased throughout the morning. So we drove in to look at a car. On our way home she looked absolutely miserable. Puffy watery eyes (the dishcharge had gone away) and she was super hot. Took her temp and it was 104.6. I freaked out. Called the clinic and NO ONE had an opening. Ok at this time it was 2ish. So they told me I'd have to wait until urgent care at 5... so we went and waited at my parents house rather than drive all the way back home and have to come back in. During our time at my parents her temp continued to fall. Getting down to 101.something. We decided to just hold off and see if by morning she was better. We came home, she ate very little for dinner and went to bed around 8. More tylenol/motrin and she slept all night.
Saturday she woke up feeling great. She ate a good beakfast, played, drank, pee'd and her temp was low all morning, around 101. We tried to lay her down for a nap around 11:30. She was up within 40 minutes screaming her head off. She was obviously uncomfortable. I sat with her in the rocker in the living room and she wouldn't move. She was a bit shaky and lethargic. I was scared. As we were sitting there she had a weird little episode, which I've since learned was a fever seizure. Her eyes rolled back, her mouth opened and she make a weird AHHH noise. And it was over as quickly as that. We took her temp right after that and it was 105.6!! Holy hell was I scared. We immediately packed up and headed in to the dr's office. Seeing that it was Saturday afternoon the only thing open was the ER. I didn't care. They can charge me whatever they want. We had to go. At the ER they checked her lungs, ears, eyes, throat, temp, body for rashes... and found nothing abnormal, besides the temp. The dr on duty was a ped's dr I know, which was so relieving. I love her and she is GREAT with E. She seemed to think that she most likely had influenza. Like the real scary flu. That babies and old people can die from! Yikes! They swabbed her nose and sent if off to the lab. We waited 30 minutes for the results and it came back negative. So now dr M was a little stumped. She told us she had to believe it was some sort of virus (duh) and that if her temp didn't come down by Tuesday we were to come back in and see her regular peds dr. So we left the ER, stopped at my parents to pick up a MUCH needed bottle of wine (they gave us 2!! bless them!) and headed home. We made a homemade pizza which E ate. More tylenol and she was in bed by 8. By 10ish when G and I were ready to head up to bed she woke up. She was acting SUPER weird. It totally scared me. I was doing my half laugh/cry cause I didn't understand what she wanted. She didn't want to be in her room at all. She kept pointing to the stairs saying, "down". So I took her downstairs and made a bed for the 2 of us on the living room floor. But for the longest time all she wanted to do was sit on the kitchen floor and cry. She said, "sit" to me and patted the floor next to her. So I sat with her for about 15 minutes while she cried, wouldn't let me touch her and kept touching her diaper. Which made me start to think she might be constipated since she hadn't pooped all day, when she usually does twice. She didn't even want the cats to walk anywhere near her, she would cry harder and lean away from them when they came near. Eventually I got her into the living room, we laid down and I put in Sh.rek. The stubborn little girl she is stayed awake for the entire dang movie. I fell asleep multiple times. Waking up on and off to see her little eyes open still, watching Sh.rek. FINALLY at 12:30 (when the movie was over) she rolled over and said, "nigh nigh", I was like, thank the lord!!! We had another round of tylenol and were off to bed. She slept until 3:20 when G got up and took his turn. She had thrown up in her bed. He got her cleaned up and settled back in and she slept until 7:30.
This morning she was doing great. I thought we were in the clear. She played and ate normally all morning, took a good nap and her temp was normal. Things started to go down hill at lunch. I made her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with cheese slices and peach slices. She ate nothing. Not one bite. All she wanted was to drink her milk. Since lunch her temp has consistenly remained 103.something. We are still doing the alternating motrin/tylenol as were told to do. We both fell asleep this evening on the couch. After waking up I made her some dinner and she ate 3 bites of her chicken. Nothing else. But drank her entire glass of juice. Then asked for some water. She is obviously thirsty (and it is a good thing she is drinking) but has no appetite. She has now been in bed since 7 and I'm really hoping she sleeps through the night as tonight whatever happens will be all my responsibility (I'm not whining) since G has to get up at 4:30 a.m. for work tomorrow.
These last few days have been very trying and my patience has been pulled very thin. Very thin. I hate to be like that but when all you hear is whine this and whine that all day for 3 days it is VERY hard to have any patience left inside!!! Please pray that I wake up tomorrow morning with a new level of patience. I understand she is sick and feeling lousy. But it is so hard, especially when you've had little sleep, are tired and have had a temp yourself. ARGH.
I hope tomorrow is a better day and that she is feeling better. If not I am really going to start getting worried about what her little body is trying to fight off. Having sick kids is scary, especially when no one knows what the heck is wrong. A virus is so broad... and scary. Please pray she gets better guys. Thank you!

I will definitely pray for E, poor little thing. To answer your question, no, we haven't dealt with a lot of sickness this year. Lila did get two sinus infections this winter. She had a never ending snotty nose that they treated with antibiotics both times, once in November and once this month. Other than that, she's been fine, no ear infections, no temperatures. I'm convinced it's the weather where you live...well, not the weather itself, but the fact that you have to stay indoors so much because it's so cold outside. Maybe it just comes with the territory? Or maybe there's just a lot of viruses going around in your area? Have you heard them mention massive outbreaks at schools? Usually when you hear things like that then everyone is going to get sick. Just pray that spring comes soon and you guys can put the Winter of Sickness behind you!
WOW! SCary stuff....no answers is SO frustrating!!! HANG IN THERE!
