meme time...

Ok, a break from the food entries... I was tagged by C's Corner to do a meme of 6 random things about myself...

1) I have a strange fear of loud noises. I get all choked up in my throat and cannot speak. It is weird. A few examples are fireworks, drums in a parade, police/fire sirens in a parade, thunder and balloons popping.

2) I am addicted to chap stick. Specifically Natu.ral Ice - original. I cannot go anywhere with out it. If I realize I have left the house without any I'll have to stop at the store to pick some up. I cannot be without it.

3) I broke my cheek bone when I was a kid. I was riding my bike in a church parking lot and flew head first over the handle bars onto my face and skidded across the black top. I will never forget how mad I was at my mom that next day, it hurt so bad to eat and she took me and my sister to McD's for dinner and forced me to eat a burger. It hurt.

4) When I was 15 years old I was doing my 6 required hours of behind the wheel in order to get my permit. The instructor I had at the time took his students out of town... like to the metro area. During one of my hours we went to the cities and I was merging into freeway traffic (remember I was 15! In drivers ed! On a freeway!) I didn't slow down fast enough and rear-ended a huge truck. It was the worst day in my 15 years of life. The car was still drivable. I had to drive home (1 hour) in a car with a smashed up hood with the stickers still on the side and back that let everyone around me know it was a "student driver". I can't believe I survived the humiliation of that drive. Nothing in my life has every been as humiliating as that moment. Makes me sick just thinking about it. And what's even worse is that he just dropped me off at the end of our driveway. He didn't even come up to the house to tell my parents what happened. I walked in the door and burst into tears. A few weeks later we rec'd insurance information regarding the incident, from the school and never talked/heard about it again. I was given my permit without any additional hours of behind the wheel. Since that day 15 years ago, I have never had an accident! (Except I hit a deer once)

5) I love being in water. It is so calming and soothing to me. It can be a bathtub, swimming pool or hot tub. I could sit there forever, especially with a glass of wine and a good book.

6) When I was growing up I had a real close relationship with my grandma. She taught me a lot of things in my life. One of my favorite things I learned from her is how to make and enjoy a tomato sandwich. She grew tomatoes in her backyard garden and they were the yummiest thing I think I've ever eaten. There is nothing better than a home grown ripe tomato in the late summer. The bread is toasted and then slathered in mayo, covered in tomato slices and sprinkled with salt and pepper. Heaven on a plate. I know gram is up there today with a beautiful garden full of perfectly ripe tomatoes enjoying her yummy sandwiches!!
