I mentioned in my previous post that my parents were going to watch E while I went to a birthday party last night. When I got into town it turned out the my parents had to go to the hospital cause my grandpa wasnt' doing well. He had been taken up to the VA hospital last week with what they thought was pnemonia. It turns out that he had a pulmonary embolism. He was given heparin to thin his blood. As a result of the heparin he had some internal bleeding, so the heparin had to be stopped. Therefore not helping the blood clots. And now he has a pool of blood in his abdomen that cannot be operated on because of his condition. It is like a catch-22.
All this happened last night. Today my parents, my sister, E and I went up to see him. He slept the entire time we were there. I hated to wake him, but before we left my mom woke him up to say goodbye and to let him know we were all there. He is in ICU so my mom was the only one to walk into his room since you had to scrub down and wear a gown and gloves. E, my sis and I stood outside the door... just so he could see we were there. I feel so helpless seeing him lie there with a million tubes coming out of his arms... it is really sad.
Tomorrow he is going to have surgery to implant a piece of... I guess the best word for it is netting in his aorta so any more clots would get stopped there... please pray that it works! I just want him to live the rest of his days pain free. That is all I want.
